I recently posted on LinkedIn about the pleasures of blogging again, went away for a while and came back to discover that may be the most popular thing I ever posted there.
Which is nice, and also probably a bit ironic: lots of interest, but on LinkedIn, not on my blog.
It also tells you something, perhaps, about how desperate people are to return to an internet that wasn’t so utterly taken over by the handful of social media companies.
A few people had also reshared my post. One, Diana, included a question about which blogging platforms readers recommend. I left a comment, which I’m copying here on my website:
-Hi Diana thanks for sharing this. (I only just saw!, because I’m trying to be blogging more than I’m on LinkedIn.)
Recommendations? I recently did a very satisfying experiment using an incredibly simple static site generator called Blot.im. It uses Markdown (see below), and content is saved in your own files, eg, iCloud or Google Drive. It seems to be very NOT evil, and I recommend it to anybody who doesn’t already have a blog / site.
But… I do already have a site (this one) that goes back more than 20 years so Blot.im will not be my long-term choice.
I hope this is useful.
