I like to put pictures behind links

This post, believe it or not, is crammed with images.

Can’t recall where I got the idea first. It could have been when I read a piece on the New York Times website that was simply crammed with links, so much so that it could make a person laugh – though as it happens that short online NYT piece was published for a very serious reason.

Or it could be because I know how much it can affect delivery to include large photos in my email newsletters.

Or a mix of the two reasons.

Either way, I realised that it can be fun to create a link to an image file. Not a web page with other things that might distract from the image but just the image itself, wherever it happens to be hosted online.

If you click on links in my blog posts or emails, you may be taken to an article (as with most links on the internet) or you may be taken to an image, and to get back you must return to whatever you were reading before.

If you were reading an email, you can just go back to your inbox. If you were on the website, go “back” a page.

If you are curious, you may see that many of my links are built to include alt text, so that by hovering your mouse over them (on a desktop) or pressing and holding (on a phone or tablet) you can see in advance what the link will show you.

You’re welcome.
