Voice notes on BBC Radio 3
A ping, and then a composer.
Transcript
Hi, this is John-Paul Flintoff with Voice Notes to the World, and I’ve just stumbled on another example – in fact I’ve been listening to it for weeks and not really put two and two together.
Another example of people using voice notes as more than just a voice note, sharing it with the world.
And it’s on Radio 3, a classical music programme where the presenter is Tom Service. And this morning at about 9:23, if you want to look it up – I don’t see why you would particularly, but anyway, take my word for it. And it’s not the first time that I’ve heard this. It’s every week, I’m sure. He’ll be talking and then there’ll be a ping noise, as if a message has just arrived.
And then the musician, or sometimes a composer, starts speaking, having recorded a voice note. And they’ll say typically something like, thanks so much for your interest in my piece, such and such. And then they’ll talk about why they like the piece, and a bit about its performance or how it was inspired. And then the message ends and Tom Service carries on with his classical music programme.
And I just kind of like collecting these voice notes to the world.
And the last one I think that I collected, and I’ll probably put a link on this episode’s webpage, where you can also find a link to send me an email if you feel like it.
Anyway, the last time this happened was the one with Miranda July, and I’ll put a link on the word Miranda July.
Thanks for listening. Bye.
