Hello

Recently, I was reading someone’s blog, and I came across a reference to his Now page. I suddenly remembered my own Now page – a page on my website, regularly updated, to keep track of what I’m doing.

I first set up my Now page in 2017, inspired by Derek Sivers. But that was shortly before all kinds of personal difficulties, which took me out of action and probably explain why I stopped updating my Now Page – indeed, forgot all about it.

But hey, I’ve remembered it and I recently updated it. You can see my Now page below. As an email in your inbox it’s forever preserved as a snapshot of what I’ve written today. But the page on my website will keep changing.

If you blog, do you have a Now page? Send me a link. I’d love to see it.

Also in this issue: a note about the monthly Writers Support Group, and a new thingy I’m trying out: weekly Unoffice Hours for anybody to sign up and have a chat with me on Zoom.

Writing

  • Collating materials for my next book, and actually putting it all together.
  • Doing that, in part, by Blogging again, sending a weekly general newsletter and various, daily popup newsletters with different topics for people who choose to opt in for any of them.
  • Mentor / co-writer with a first-time author, to deliver his manuscript to large US publisher.
  • Re-learning to use the command-line, and particularly enjoying grep.

1 Now page. This page was inspired by Derek Sivers and I’m delighted to say it’s registered here among Derek’s NowNowNow collection.

2 Unoffice Hours. The idea to do these 1-to-1 Zooms was inspired by Matt Webb, whose own experience doing this (starting in lockdown) sounds fun and worthwhile.

Writers Support Group

Writing alone can be – well, lonely. After years teaching writers I’ve come to see that tips and techniques aren’t half as valuable as just being part of a group of other writers.

In a group, you have a place to share what you’re dealing with, find solutions, and hold each other accountable in a supportive spirit.

The Writers Support Group meets TWICE each month, on the same day.

Fourth Thursday of the month
12.30pm UK (60 mins)
6pm UK (60 mins)
(Come to either or both.)
