Unoffice Hours: come and say hello

Photo taken on Zoom showing JPF and guest.

For a while now I’ve kept one slot open in my diary every week – thirty minutes, on Zoom, Wednesday lunchtime UK – for anyone who fancies a chat. No agenda required.

We can talk about work, kick an idea around, or wander wherever the conversation goes. It’s free, and the only thing you have to do is book it.

I borrowed the idea from Matt Webb, who started doing this during lockdown and wrote about it in a way that made it sound both and worthwhile. I like that it put him back in touch with people he hadn’t heard from in years, as well as new people.

And that’s more or less how it’s turned out for me. I’ve enjoyed hearing about other people’s work and creative projects. There’s something freeing about a conversation that isn’t trying to get anywhere. You just get to be curious.

So far guests have mostly been people who already follow what I do. But not always. Some aren’t even on my newsletter list, which means they found some other way here – social media, perhaps. I find that rather heartening.

I like to think this website is a friendly sort of home from home – somewhere you might drop by. That’s partly why I added a Guestbook, so you can leave a message. And it’s why the door to Unoffice Hours stays open.

One slot a week. It could be you.
