Keeping an eye on the giants who came before you

Photo in gallery window of a framed print by David Hockney, showing the artist approaching a large head of Picasso on a plinth

Saw this in a gallery window in Hampstead*. It’s by David Hockney: a portrait of the artist approaching a giant head of Picasso.

It demonstrates a debt, while asserting its own originality.

Makes me wonder whose giant head on a plinth I would draw, if I were as talented as Hockney.

Obviously, this isn’t all about art. Could also approach the plinth in writing, or by speaking.

Who would you draw, or write about?
