Writing Can Be Lonely

Flying on a Book Together.jpeg

The cliche is that we all sit in our rooms tap-tap-tapping for days and weeks without seeing anybody – like the Jack Nicholson character in The Shining.

👺 Not good. 👺

When I worked in newspapers, on staff, I was always surrounded by people. THEN, the problem was finding a moment’s peace to think.

After I became a father, I switched to working at home. I don’t regret that. I loved it.

But I DID get lonely sometimes, even in the too-few hours between school pick up and drop off.

I wasn’t good at admitting to that, not even to myself.

It takes effort and commitment to find allies.

That’s one reason I’m starting a group for writers.

The group will be focused on Getting Things Done – writing that bookproposal, the book, or shorter-form projects like a series of email newsletters.

But much of the value is the sheer companionship.

(Drawing of writers, flying on an open book, by me.)
