Getting in touch with people in L&D
In law firms, at least to begin with
[ Writing this as notes to myself, so that I remember what I’ve just done. ]
To begin, I looked on social media for people who work in Learning & Development who might like what I’m sharing:
- a free copy of A Modest Book About How To Make An Adequate Speech (author: me)
- a free A5 art print, Simon’s Dahlias (artist: me again)
- a workshop or training session in the organisation where they work

Having put together a short list of individuals, I sent each one an email (a “normal” email, not a newsletter) announcing that s/he was about to receive a book.
This is what I wrote in the email:
Hello FIRSTNAME
You will soon receive at your office a book designed for people like the lawyers you work with at LAW FIRM.
Specifically, it’s about how they can communicate better, as one human among others – increasingly important, in this age of AI.
It’s a shortish book, but a proper one, of the kind you can buy in bookshops. It was published by Hachette.
It contains things you know already (because nobody becomes Head Learning and Development without knowing a lot), but I hope it may add a little too.
I know you’re busy, so I’ll stop there. I just wanted to give you a bit of advance notice!
Best wishes

PS. In case you didn’t guess, I’m the author. Please let me know if you don’t receive it!
I hadn’t sent anything yet, so the PS was a bit previous, if you see what I mean.
