Quick update on the three pictures I submitted. It will be good to see later which, if any, is chosen.

Here they are (click on the image to see a larger version):

Ayla Lepine reading Black Liturgies (detail)

Revd Dr Ayla Lepine, reading (detail), 2025.

I had a breakdown, and used to sit in churches because they were free. One priest recommended I visit Ayla at a church near me. She had a background in art, and commissioned me to make portraits of 40 members of her congregation. She got me started again. Now she’s at St James’s Piccadilly, where I made this portrait. Thanks Ayla!

Four versions of Mark Stephens in his office, 2025.

I also just fell in love with his yellow walls!). There are four pictures of Mark here. Can you find them all?

Elly Millar, publisher, in her office, 2024.

Elly Millar and her husband run Galley Beggar press, in Norwich. I made this portrait, and another of Sam, as part of a series recognising the crucial role of independent publishers in an otherwise very corporate industry. Their books have won many awards. As a writer of books myself, I’m very grateful to them. The project continues…
