After raising the idea in last week’s JPF Weekly newsletter, I have built a Guestbook for this site.
Here’s a screenshot of the first comment (written by me, obviously):
Took hours, but I’m pleased to have stuck with it through a lot of fiddly back-and-forth debugging.
I now have a guestbook that:
- Looks like it belongs on this site, instead of landing here from someone else’s / outer space
- Has multiple layers of spam protection working together – kapow! take that, bots!
- Will email me, apparently, when someone leaves a message (NOT proven yet, this)
- Has comment entries and form neatly constrained and styled
And… breathe!
Of course, this means very little unless people actually leave comments in the guestbook.
