A Family Of Refugees | Reportage Illustration

Going out into the world, seeing things, drawing them… This is journalism, as much as anything I ever did as a writer on newspapers and magazines.

At best – to which I aspire, even if I’m not there yet – illustrated reportage can create ripples in the world.

Soon after I drew Richard Ratcliffe on hunger strike, a friend who is a journalist asked if I would like to draw a family of refugees she was helping to settle in the UK.

They would be coming to her home, to collect clothing and other items donated by her neighbours.

I drew several pictures that day. Three of them appear in my new book, Psalms For The City.

This one runs across two pages.
