In a museum in Lviv, Ukraine, in 2019 I saw lots of beautiful paintings of the Transfiguration of Christ.
They all had the same arrangement of figures, in more or less the same colours.
This morning, thinking about the transformation of Ukraine’s president, formerly a TV comedian and now a first-class hero, I drew my own version, following as closely as I could remember the disposition of Christ, the prophets and the disciples.
I was astonished to discover that in churches today the reading is from St Luke’s version of the Transfiguration.
I started with pen, added watercolour, then pencil, and finally tweaked it on my iPad to emphasize the colours of the Ukrainian flag.
