Ghosts are a time-honoured story-telling device. They get stories out of characters who would otherwise stand mutely on stage.
By conversing with ghosts, people get to say what would otherwise never be said.
Sometimes I work as a ghost-writer. It’s much like being a journalist: I talk to people, so they can get the words out. Then we put the words on paper.
If you find writing painful, try speaking into your phone – as if speaking to a ghost. Save the recording, and use AI to transcribe it.
