At the private view of my portrait show at Burgh House this week, a man walked in who was at one point going to produce a television film about me driving my G-Wiz from John o’Groats to Land’s End, or possibly the other way round.
Seeing him again brought the G-Wiz flooding back.
Then I caught a BBC documentary on the amazing achievements of Chinese electric carmakers, and learned that BYD is installing UK chargers that add roughly 250 miles of range in five minutes – about the time it once took me to take the charging wire from the G-Wiz, run it across the pavement, feed it through the letter box and shove it in a socket.
I don’t have an electric car any more.
The world has moved on – left the G-Wiz so far behind that it has lapped it and is now approaching from the other direction.
