The Finished Painting | Tess W.'s Magnolia, part 4 of 4

Why paint on canvas is different from everything that came before

Dear Tess

When I’d finished the new painting to my satisfaction, and packed it in the car to drive to you again, I took a photo.

This is the fourth email (of four) about a painting commission.

It reminds me how big that canvas really was:

It filled the entire back seat in the car.

I enjoyed driving it to you, and handing it over. I imagine that by now you may have had it framed, and put it up somewhere. I think you said it would go upstairs. Anyway, I left it with you on the big sofa near your kitchen.

As well as photographing the back of the photo, in the car, I took a picture of the front – the painting itself. Here it is (below), standing in my conservatory, closely resembling that second iPad composition but also very different, because paint on canvas is – after all – paint on canvas.

Thank you for the commission, Tess. I enjoyed painting this for you, and I’m thrilled that you were pleased with it.

Thank you for reading this mini-series.

If anyone else reading this would like to talk to me about a painting commission – well, please get in touch.
