Well, I opened the boxes and removed the crumpled brown paper that had been squished inside as packaging, pulled out the top copy of my book and -
My heart sank. The dust jacket wasn’t right.
I rummaged for other copies of the book, further down. All the same.
And in the other boxes too.
I’d submitted artwork for the dust jacket to the exact dimensions specified. Checked again and again.
But the jacket that came back was too big – standing almost a centimetre above the book itself.

I guess it just hadn’t been cut correctly.
The dust jacket on several copies was already bent.

I got in touch with the printer, asked them to reprint all 90 dust jackets, and to be sure the next batch – already in production – will not have the same problem.
No answer yet.

Today (Monday 8 June) I heard back from the printer. They say they will print new dust jackets for me. But they will not be able to fold them around the book, so I will have to do that myself – with all 90 copies in that first printing.
I asked if the reprinted dust jackets can be printed and then folded around the (identical) hardbacks in the second printing which is still in production with them… Will see!
