Capturing both pleasure and slog

Always nice to have a record of the mundane stuff, because years later it can be miraculously transformed into something exquisite.

Not absolutely sure that will work with these three pictures of the Evri postage label printer at the Parcelshop around the corner, but who knows.

Best hope: they will remind me of the combined pleasure and slog of sending out copies of my first self-published book, A Speccy Man Has A Breakdown, and the great sense of a connection with readers as named individuals.

Photo of Evri postage label printer surrounded by clutter in a stationery shop, with screen waiting for a new customer.

The machine is right by the door to the shop. Sometimes I’ve stood there for quite some time, printing lots of labels at once, as other customers file in and out with parcels, prams and whatnot.

Similar photo of the Evri printer amid clutter, but this time with screen reading 'I want to print a label'.

Next (above): shove my QR code under the machine’s camera, and wait for the machine to think about it.

Hand reaching for printed label from same Evri machine, this time screen reads 'You're almost done!'

As you see, I’ve photographed this so you can’t see the recipient’s address. Let nobody say my blog invades people’s privacy!

Consider this blog post a kind of time capsule, to be assessed only much later.
