Four Versions of Mark Stephens At Work

The Scene:
Mark Stephens in his office, showing traces of decades of legal practice in a single artwork. Multiple poses show Mark in characteristic moments, including tying his necktie and wrestling with a puzzling issue at his desk:
Meaningful Details:
The portrait incorporates carefully observed elements including photographs with Mark in them (one on the pile of books, one on the desk – look carefully!); plus professional achievements, and personal mementos marking a distinguished career.
Technical Approach:
The picture was created through direct observation and digital artistry, mostly on my iPad. The finished work is printed on museum-quality Hahnemühle German etching paper (A2 format).
Additional Documentation:
- Process video available
- Written narrative
- Photo documentation, including some of the reference pictures I took while I was with Mark:

Spatial Narrative:
The composition places each team member to suggest meaningful interactions and professional relationships.

Technical Approach:
The picture was created through direct observation and digital artistry on my iPad. The finished work is printed on museum-quality Hahnemühle German etching paper (A2 format).
Organisational Impact:
Work on the portrait itself, shared over time, created many opportunities for social media posts and stories:
As well as this kind of opportunity for current documentation the work will serve as an institutional memory.
