Commission A Picture Of Your Dog

For yourself, or for somebody else

I draw people’s dogs to create a lasting memory.

I started doing it for friends, then went bonkers drawing my own dog after she joined our family in lockdown. I continue doing it for others because I love seeing how happy the pictures can make them.

Peter invited me to draw his daughters, each one with two dogs. There was a lot of moving about. I like that, because it gives the finished picture spirit. But it’s easier to draw a dog that stays still, even briefly.

My Dog

Peanut is a miniature schnauzer, but on the large size for a miniature.

After having three litters of puppies, she retired from that kind of thing. She makes me laugh.

In context

Caroline wanted a picture to remember her Boxer, Poppy, who is no longer with us. So I drew Poppy outside the family house.

How It Works

Usually, my drawings are created with ink on paper, often with watercolour or gouache, and finished digitally. Where possible, I draw from life, but with Covid I’ve increasingly worked from photos and films. Here’s one:

With commissions, I like to have a conversation beforehand, and when the work is nearly finished I share it with you to ask if there are particular things you might like added or changed before it is printed onto textured Hahnemuhle paper with archival ink.
