Sheena told me with some excitement about an exhibition she’d seen – paintings by Gwen John.
“Much better than her brother [Augustus],” she added.
I love that kind of inspirational appeal, and went to look at Gwen John’s paintings online. (The exhibition she’d seen was outside London.)
I loved the muted colours in John’s quiet portraits, mostly of anonymous women. I copied one, but added a bit of vibrancy to the colours.
That seems to be my thing at the moment.
