Weeknote 6 of 12 | w/e 8 Feb 2026

Weeknote: a chance to look back on the week that finished and plan for the week ahead.1

Assume that each paragraph immediately below is formatted in four parts, thus:

Achieved Why that’s good What’s possible? One first action
1. Did this thing, specifically 2. Marvellous because (reason) 3. I can now do (whatever) 4. Schedule 15 mins to do (whatever)

1. Sent out copies of Modest Adequate book. 2. Gives a renewed sense of the book’s value, gives me an audience (yay) who may want to give me work. 3. Follow up with useful and entertaining additional material on same general topic of speaking and listening and being a human among humans. 4. Start by forwarding them one email newsletter, in hope they may subscribe.

1. Entered portraits to Mall Galleries 2. Keep putting it out, something may be accepted – won’t be if I don’t even submit anything. 3. Glorious triumph and world fame etc etc. 4. Check the date for when the gallery makes a decision.

1. Preliminary planning zoom call with Wendy and Arvon team for course later this month. 2. Good to be in one Zoom together, and refresh self about what will be involved / how to proceed. 3. n/a_ 4. n/a_

1. Had two people sign up for my Wednesday afternoon Unoffice Hours. 2. Great to have that connection, that opportunity to find out what people like / want, eg: “Can you help me (and others, after) be you? Your way of doing client contact and internet use is a breath of fresh air (or even a lifeline) and has been for years. I hate being kidnapped and manipulated by the platforms.” 3. As this suggests there may be new Things To Do that arise out of these sessions / may not, and that’s fine either way. 4. Put those dates in my paper diary.

1. Wrote and laid out 12 Bird Fellowship as book 2. Able to see the value of the pictures as a New Thing, and to assess the text as (variously) handwriting and different type faces. 3. Get a printed version from Mixam. 4. n/a

1. Took delivery of Mixam printed copies of HRG Outstagram and Ch’s sister. 2. Physical artefacts demonstrate the whole point of the Micro-Memoir course. 3. Take photos and use these physical copies as part of the course / marketing. 4. Upload photos of Ch’s sister booklet to Files, then to Textpattern.

1. Wrote and published JPF Weekly. 2. OMG how long have I struggled to get this done. 3. Write more of the framework of “What this is”, so that I can understand it better myself and so that people can opt in or out as they wish. 4. List all the elements of what that framework might even be.

1. Ate out at Soutine in St John’s Wood. 2. Just nice to go out for a meal and be among people and I love Soutine so what’s not good? 3. More eating out! 4. n/a

1. Sold C’s bike on eBay to a nice chap from Fulham, after sending out a direct message to “watchers” offering to sell it to them for half the listing price (which was actually the price I listed it for on Gumtree). 2. Happy it’s gone to a new home to be used, and learned a lot about how useless Gumtree is. 3. More things to get rid of, clear the house, live in paradise etc etc. 4. Find one more thing to put on eBay?

1. Stopped myself trying to record the whole of a book on my podcast. 2. Classic example of me getting distracted by “another good idea”. 3. I mean, yeah, there could be something in this idea, but not just yet. More planning, less distraction and spontaneity. 4. NO!

12 Week Year Recap. My goals are:

  • A financial goal
  • In-person workshops goal (5x by end of March)
  • A publishing goal (weekly newsletters, daily Outstagram in Feb leading to self-pub Breakdown book, Micro-Memoir course in March)
  • Weekly portraits

What I STILL didn’t do last week: Contact enough people at TGS (but how many is enough?), Create a weekly portrait(!), download everything from LinkedIn and Facebook/Instagram.

To do this week:

  • Line up interview dates with CB and other independent publishers
  • Set aside two hours to write for Committee X members
  • Change Writers Support Group date for February
  • Schedule task to change banking app categories for next year’s tax return

1 Didn’t actually press “Publish” on this for a whole week, and I haven’t even started writing next week. I’m finding this a bit too much, as it currently stands. Must think of a lighter way to do it.
