Independent Publishers | How many imprints in one smallish bookshop?

IMG_2992.jpeg

There’s a bookshop in West Hampstead, West End Lane Books. As you see, it’s not huge. But it stocks an extraordinary number of different indie publishers on its shelves.

I don’t only mean the various imprints of the giant publishers (Vintage being an imprint of Penguin Random House, and so on).

With permission from the woman in the shop, I stood taking photos of a few of the different indie logos on the fiction shelves.

Indie publishers as seen at West End Lane Books.jpg

They include: And Other Stories, British Library, Canongate, DB Editions, Dead Ink, Faber & Faber, Fitzcarraldo, Fly On The Wall Press, Granta, Haus Publishing, Influx Press, Jacaranda, Manila Press, NYRB, Neem Tree Press, New Vessel Press, Oneworld, Pushkin Press, Renard, Repeater Press, Riverrun, Scribe, Semiotext(e), Sort Of Books, Swift Press, Three Times Rebel, Unbound, Weatherglass, Windmill.

Not represented, though I’ve seen and bought their books at West End Lane Books in the past: Salt, Galley Beggar, Persephone and others.

It’s possible that I’ve included here one or two that do in fact belong to one of the giant publishing companies. If you see one, please let me know and I’ll remove it.

Thanks!
